Langen Foundation Art Centre, Tadao Ando
The Langen Foundation near Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, is a museum designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

The museum is set up on the grounds of an old NATO rocket launch base. The building has a double skin facade volume and two semi-buried temporary exhibition wings with a total area of 900 m2. The structure consists mainly of reinforced concrete, glass and steel. The museum has three exhibition spaces totaling 1,300 m2. Located in the concrete slab at ground level is the room of Japan – an unusually long and narrow gallery conceptualized by Ando as a space of “tranquility” specific to the Japanese sector of the Langen collection. The two underground exhibition halls, with an astonishing height under ceiling of eight meters, are in their turn designed to accommodate the modern part of the collection.
