PPG Place by John Burgee Architects with Philip Johnson
Johnson Burgee’s AT&T tower is more widely known, but PPG completed at the same time is a far more succesful reinvention of an historical architectural form. Evoking the Palace of Westminster’s Victoria Tower, but wrapped in crystalline mirror glass, a showcase for the glassmaking company whose headquarters it was, the complex is a perfect embodiment of the strange ambiguities of architecture at the time.
