Grand Mosque at Djenne, in Mali
“The jewel in the crown of this region full of mud architecture, the Great Mosque of Djenne is the largest mud building in the world. The mosque sits close to the Niger river and the square in front hosts a renowned Friday market. Beautifully adapted to the climate its walls are replastered every year, using the permanent formwork projecting from its walls.”
