“The Bubble” Kennington County Primary School by Lancashire County Council Architects’ Department

This was the classroom I entered on my first day of primary school and where pupils at Kennington spend their first year of school. It always fascinated and amazed with its geodesic spiky form and is utterly unique as a piece of education architecture.
It was developed as a prototype for an entire plastic school that would have been built in Lancashire before the oil crisis in the 1970s made it too expensive. It is an argument in favour of architects working in the public sector and having license to innovate and experiment.
